Solving It - SABC 3 - 26 Sept.

Did anyone watch tonight's episode of Solving It on SABC 3 on witch-hunts?

The tragic tale of the 2006 murder of Mrs Jemina Molephe (including her children and husband who were burned to death in their home) by 11 family members who accused her of witchcraft, was retold in this episode. Neither she nor her family were Witches.

I'd like to know why Tin Rage Television Productions deemed it unnecessary to interview actual Witches in order to dispel the underlying notions that motivated this horrific event - one of many that occur every year in this country.

Pertinent Question

Good Morning

I don't believe folk in this day and age do not know of our existence (I believe its more a case of using sensationalism to boost figures and number of viewers and to perpetuate ignorance which of course is always a perfect way to cash in). We need to contact the makers of this documentary and ask them this very pertinent question, Damon.

done

I have done so. I hope I get a response.

a response

I have received a predictable response from the producer ... "We contacted three "witches" Sangomas in the Limpopo area, where the story was situated and none were prepared to grant us an interview..."

I have responded as follows:

- Kindly note that isangoma's (including inyangas) do not self-identify as Witches. They are not, therefore, Witches.
I would welcome further discussion with you on this and other related issues concerning actual (real) Witchcraft and its historical prejudicial misuse by the media, SAPS and general public. This issue needs to be unpacked in a logical and rational way in order to clarify historically held untruths which are assumed by you to be true. -

Will keep you informed of any progress.
