IN MEMORIAM ~ SANDRA SHIRLOW

Members of the Council
It is with sadness that we communicate the passing on of a Pagan friend and High Priestess, Sandra Shirlow, who crossed over earlier today after a long battle against cancer.
Rev. Ginney May was at her bedside and wrote:
“I so much wish peace for her and a wonderful journey to balance out the suffering she has endured. I do believe the Goddess was with her. The only audible word I could make out from her was "Mother". She was not looking at me at the time but past me.”
During my last conversation with Sandra she joked about wanting to be remembered once she’d gone, and I said she’d be remembered for how brave she was and that she was an inspiration to us all. I wrote to her: “Your voice will be heard through that of your children, your song will be heard in the love they harbour in their hearts for you and in the stories they will tell their children about you; your writings will speak long after you've crossed over and ring out for eternity in the hearts of those they touch. You will be remembered”.

We salute and honour you Immortal Sister. Goddess speed!
Soon!
With love and admiration

Remembering Sandra Shirlow

I didn't know Sandra for very long, but I had all the time in the world for her - she was the HPS of the first coven I joined. Around the beginning of this year, she and I had some conversations I shall treasure always, as she spoke from her experience. The extra time allotted to her allowed her to do some very important work, and I have every faith that she now reaps the harvest of wisdom.

Doreen Valiente wrote this poem on the death of Robert Cochrane (whose death was also untimely), and I feel it to be appropriate here, too.

Elegy for a Dead Witch --

To think that you are gone, over the crest of the hills,
As the Moon passed from her fullness, riding the sky,
And the White Mare took you with her.
To think that we will wait another life
To drink the wine from the horns and leap the fire.
Farewell from this world, but not from the Circle.
That place that is between the worlds
Shall hold return in due time. Nothing is lost.
The half of a fruit from the tree of Avalon
Shall be our reminder, among the fallen leaves
This life treads underfoot. Let the rain weep.
Waken in sunlight from the Realms of Sleep.

~ Doreen Valiente

I shall miss you, friend.

To Sandra and family

Lady,

Your children may be sad as they will miss your laughter and the wisdom you've shared with them. They will be relieved that you not suffering anymore.

Yet your spirit has reached it's real home. Making ready for the next journey. May the lessons learned in this life be the wisdom for the next.

Goddess speed.
