An Ndwedwe traditional healer was arrested after he was found in possession of body parts at his home on Tuesday.
The man, who is a well- known traditional healer in Cottonlands, near Verulam, had been under police surveillance for two weeks.
Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said the police dog and crime prevention unit had been tipped off that the man kept body parts.
Zwane said that when police searched the house they found a right arm which had been amputated at the elbow and a right leg. The body parts were for making "muthi".
"Police found the body parts wrapped in a black refuse bag hidden behind a toilet. At this stage we are unsure whether they belonged to a male or female."
Zwane said the man was|arrested and had been charged with murder.
"We would like to encourage families who are missing their relatives in Umhlali and surrounding areas to report to the police."
