Damon Leff

If one does not know anything about a religion, one speaks to an adherent of that religion to learn more about it. You do not consult a Muslim when you are trying to learn something about Christianity, you speak to a Christian. Speak to members of almost every faith about Witchcraft however and with few exceptions, they will probably relate two commonly held but wholly untrue beliefs; Witches are evil (criminal) and Witchcraft is malevolent magic. So strong is this consensus of condemnation on the subject in Africa that no amount of reason or protest to the contrary by actual Witches will sway the fervent believer. Facts only serve to confuse the faithfully prejudiced.

Dispelling

I read your blog Damon and thank you for being such a constant representative of our Cause. It is alarming to see how many people have fashioned themselves experts in Witchcraft, that however, have never adhered to this religion.

Last week I saw the end of a documentary on one of the SABC channels in which Raene Packery, Mynie and Norman Geldenhuys appeared explaining what the Path of Witchcraft is all about. Efforts like theirs and your indefatigable struggle against ignorance, go a long way towards dispelling this condenming and confusing form of religious prejudice.

I caught the same

I caught the same documentary - yes, enjoyed it. :-)

Only doing what I can, where I can.

A colleague of mine caught the re-run of that documentary yesterday and asked me today to tell him all about Paganism. I chatted to him and then, very pleased with himself, he exclaimed:
"I thought to myself you are one of these Pagans. I know you. It is nothing scary." *smile*

Good work Raene!
