Pagan Widow and Orphan Fund / Trust

Merry Meet Fellow Holy Wise Ones,

How about We as Pagans form our own Pagan Widow and Orphan Fund / Trust. As We know there are a lot of needy out there can't We start looking after our own needy Family the Widow and Orphan Pagan children out there? Let Us make a difference in the life of the needy...I beg to thee My fellow Pagans.

How about We have a vote on this?

Excellent idea

I do not know the legalities, but I do believe that it is a noble proposal and should be seriously looked into.
Could the Convener perhaps find out from SARS if as an NPO may collect funds for such a Trust?

Thank you Damon

Thank you Damon. I have requested our Convener to look into the matter and it appears that it is more complex than expected. Registrar

This is indeed a noble and worthy cause... BUT!

My experience with the Pagan community in general has shown me, much to my sadness and disappointment, that our Pagan brethren are generally long on words but short on commitment when it comes to anything that requires personal sacrifice, particularly finances.

Yes, there are those of us who are financially not 'quite' where we would like to be - as is the case in ANY community - but there are a whole lot more of us who find it far easier to buy consumables of every description for personal consumption, than to contribute to any sort of Pagan cause, however noble.

Ask our Registrar how much she and our Convenor have paid out of their own pockets towards the SAPC, in comparison to what anybody/EVERYbody else has contributed in total. I believe you will be just as shocked and saddened as I...

So, great idea, noble cause - but in my considered opinion it will never amount to anything more than a pipe-dream, specifically because of the nature of our Pagan community... And that saddens me greatly.

Spread the Idea

As sponsors of the SAPC you, Vishnu Rama and I know that you are right Charles, but perhaps simply by writing about this cause we can put the noble concept suggested by Vishnu Rama out there. Ideally it could become a meme and one day find the support you agree it deserves. :)

Living in hope...

but hopefully not dying in despair...

This is an old hobby-horse of mine - something I never noticed way back when, but which has become ever more apparent the more I scrutinise our Pagan community: Pagans are very 'mean' about finances, as a whole. We are rather inclined to spend very little, if anything, on supplies and Pagan decorations, knick-knacks, and the rest, than one would think reasonable when all is said and done, particularly given that there is no injunction in our belief system to 'tithe' a portion of all our income to our 'Church'.

In that respect, at least, the xtians (or their leaders, anyway) fare a whole lot better than our Pagan equivalents...

A rather sad and shameful state of affairs.

But yes, let's get the idea out there. Who knows? Maybe one of our wise and powerful members will donate a winning LOTTO ticket to the cause... I continue to live in hope...
