Introduction.

Introduction.

Greetings!

Just want to introduce myself here on this forum.
First off, my real name is Mattias and i'm 27 years old and i'm not South African. I'm from Sweden, but currently I live and work in Norway, but I will be coming to SA in august this year, and thought that I would try to make some contact with pagans in africa since it's my destination.

When it comes to my pagan beliefs i'm currently stumbling in the dark, trying to find my spiritual path. I already know my earthly path, wich is the path of a nomad, a wanderer.
How come, you might wonder?
Well, all my life i've always had this "feeling" or something "tugging" me that there is something else out there, that there is something I must do, that I was living a life I wasn't suppose to live. I refused to listen for years, but one day, in december 2009, that feeling, or "something" literally kicked me in the teeth(I had a mental breakdown) and gave me a choice, change my way of life or commit suicide. I chose to change. Why? Well, at that time I was severely depressed, didn't care about anything or anyone, this had been going on for years.
Now i've sold or given away most of my belongings, I only own what can fit into a backpack. I've gotten rid of many "friends" that I don't need and I don't smoke or drink alcohol anymore.

I'm on my way to reclaim my life, to live the life I was born to live, i've had dreams of it, i've always known, that's what that "feeling" or "something" has told me. Wether or not it was Mother Earth calling me, I do not know but I have finally started to listen.

Where does paganism fit into all of this?
Well, i've always had a subconciousness belief that there is more to this world than we are taught in school and such. That the rule under one god is not right. That there are "things" and forces out there that we cannot always scientifically explain, that there are ancient mysteries all around us. I've always known, but I've never taken it seriously, until now. This spiritual awakening is part of my path, wich I am beginning to see as some sort of spiritual pilgrimige. A journey of learning.

Currently i'm reading about celtic shamanism, druidism, animism and animal guiding spirits. But as I said, spiritually, i'm more or less stumbling in the dark as of yet, I suppose it's all part of waking up.

And what is Maitiú mac Faolchú? It's irish gaelic for "Mattias, son of Wolf". My father's(R.I.P.) name was Rolf, wich means "Wolf" in ancient scandinavian.

Cheers and bleesed be //

Merry Path

Thank you for your introduction. I enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about you. I am a follower of Religio Romana and a Pantheist at that.
It is interesting to note that the Romans had a practical attitude to religion and also had difficulty in accepting the idea of a single, all-seeing, all-powerful God. Roman religion was not based on a central belief system but on a mixture of rituals, ceremonies, taboos, superstitions and traditions that had their origins in Etruscan, local Latin tribes and Greek, Egyptian and Eastern religious cultures. To most religion was a contractual relationship between men and the Gods, who were forces/energies which influenced (and in some instances controlled) mankind’s existence and welfare. Romans also worshipped their domestic deities and sacrificed food to them as well as the ancestors in the privacy of their own homes.
Those whose spiritual needs were not met by State religion, turned to the Mystery Schools of old and the Oracle Centres. This, and philosophy, (I must confess) are the parts which interest me the most.
If you are ever near the city of Nelspruit, please contact us at lunaguardia@absamail.co.za and we would be honoured to meet up with and introduce you to other South African Pagans.
In the interim enjoy your travels, your self-discovery and every bit of knowledge that you acquire along the way.
Merry Part!
