Samantha Bailey is joining forces with 350.org again, and their first foray is linking up with effort to stop the World Bank deciding to give SA the massive coal loan. They have sent this out to the South Africa list yesterday and have over 400 signatures so far.
It's a bit of a rush as we hope to deliver next week, so your help to spread the word would be most appreciated. Please consider forwarding it on to your networks so we can get as many signatures as possible. Other options:

Dear Friends,
A few weeks ago, while our team was planning out exciting new campaigns for 2010, we heard something and we couldn't quite believe our ears: The World Bank has proposed to give a US$3.75 billion (R29 billion) loan to Eskom to
build a number of new dirty coal-fired and nuclear power plants [1]. And at the same time, Eskom plans to raise electricity rates 25% over the next three years [2]. Big polluters are getting cut-rate electricity - the world's cheapest - while the poorest will face the highest rates in thecountry.
Dozens of South African environmental, community, church, labour, academic and women's organizations have mobilized, but we need your help sending a message to the World Bank that we won't accept a dirty loan.
Click here to say NO to the dirty World Bank loan to Eskom.
Coal is the dirtiest of all energy sources, from mining to transport to burning, releasing toxics into our waterways and contributing potent greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Recent reports show that by the time we build our next coal-fired power station, the electricity it produces will be more expensive that if we use renewable energy to produce it. We need to get to work implementing those solutions that will solve the climate crisis, put
us on the path to 350, and help poor communities develop in a sustainable way.
To make sure the World Bank hears us, we will take this petition and deliver it directly to the Board of Directors at their offices in Washington D.C.next week - if we can get a few of them to vote no it's much more likely that the loan request will be rejected. We won't stand for unjust solutions and dirty energy - we're getting to work in our communities, and we expect our leaders to do the same.
Many thanks in advance,
Samantha Bailey, 350.org

EARTH HOUR 2010
Please find below an email template which you can adapt to send out. Thank you very much for your support.
Dear [name]
Join us for Earth Hour 2010
"We have only one planet. Given what we know about climate change today, it would be foolish not to act. Earth Hour 2010 gives an opportunity to the people of the world to unite in a call for action on climate change and to
take the lead by making changes in their own lives."
- Dr Morné du Plessis, CEO, WWF South Africa
For Earth Hour 2010, WWF calls on South Africans to switch off their lights on Saturday, 27 March, as a symbolic act to send a powerful message to leaders that the time to act on climate change is now.
The Copenhagen Climate Summit in December failed to deliver the climate deal our planet needs. This year WWF is challenging individuals to take the lead by pledging to reduce their own carbon footprint. We have to show world
leaders that we are serious about tackling climate change and that we want them to deliver a fair, effective and binding climate deal - a deal that keeps global warming as far below 2 degrees as possible.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu is the patron of the campaign, and Cape Town and Durban have already pledged their support for Earth Hour 2010. Other celebrities, who will be switching off their lights, include The Parlotones,
Bryan Habana, Jo-Ann Strauss, Marc Lottering and The Stormers.
Participating in Earth Hour is easy, fun and free. All you need to do is:
* Pledge
your carbon footprint.
* Switch off the lights of your home on 27 March from 8:30pm - 9:30pm.
* Spread the message to your friends and family.
* Show your support by posting the Earth Hour 2010 web banner and widget on
