THE SACRED PATH AROUND KAILASH

We salute you as we find ourselves on this road adapting, adjusting to your spiritual journey. On this journey we should be aware, mindful, never permitting our consciousness to being distracted by negative thoughts or the senses.

Pilgrimage is about receiving what is offered to us along the road; it is the act of getting our minds and spirit around the experience, so that the new us can return home empowered. Enriched.

Lord Shiva and his beloved Parvati lie in bliss eternally enmeshed with the mountain peaks, lakes and skyline, on the summit of Mount Kailash. Those who undertake the kang kora or trip to “the precious jewel of the eternal snow” experience terrible discomfort, vertigo, dizziness and even depression. During the pilgrimage they will drink water that has run down the matted locks of the Nataraja, quenching their inner thirst and finally coming to the understanding of blissful eternity. Circling Lake Manasarovar, they walk over 48km spent in praise and meditation , and over 4 weeks circumambulating the Sacred Kailash purging themselves of themselves, leaving the old life behind.

Those of us here have been privy to great words of wisdom as well as words of hurt. Let us remember that it is never the suffering that keeps a pilgrim moving on. It is the expectation of joy, peace and illumination that keeps us treading onwards.
