Red Shadow Angel ~ A Lupercalia Poem
In a cave beneath the sand
The Oracle lifts her hand…
In the black sky overhead
Can be seen the colour red
The dreams come in a blur
Of bloody breasts wrapped in fur,
A child’s smell and suckling moan
The cloth of Life is slowly sewn
Listen close to Cerberus’ roar
Spill the wine and catch the boar,
Raise your face to the silver Moon
For the one in the mirror will break through soon
Remove your shoes and dance the drum
Raise your swords and begin the fun.
Lupercalia is just the first long night
To lose your blinders to your sight….
Open arms and blushing cheeks
The music flows from wood and creek
The light is dancing with the dark
We choose to know and bear the mark.
Whisper softly, call the name
When she comes, make your claim
Her wings unfold like a pool of shadow
Casting knowledge as a bow and arrow
Aim for the head, aim for the heart
To fly you must learn to know your art.
